"Goodbye Dear, I'll Be Back in a Year."
That's what a young American soldier told his fiancee before the start of World War II in a fictional book by the same name.
Author and Arlington native Patricia Abbott was in Tyler today to sign copies of her book at the Barnes & Noble on South Broadway.
The story is about Jack Andrews, a fictional character who was drafted and told he'd only be away for a year. But after the attack on Pearl Harbor, he ended up fighting in World War II for four years, leaving his fiancee at home. The book tells readers what comes of the couple's lengthy separation.
