WEB EX: Street Rod Nationals welcome thousands

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Whether you are into what is under the hood or behind the paint and primer, car guys and ladies fascinated by vintage vehicles would not dare cancel plans to partake in the 43rd Street Rod Nationals Plus.

"We were scrambling. Trying to figure out what to do," Lisa Lawrence told WAVE 3 outside the Crowne Plaza hotel. Her family booked a room for the weekend, but she worried whether the hotel would be able to accommodate her after 60-80 mph winds blew off part of the roof.

Debris crushed vehicles and some rooms were damaged by water. However, hotel personnel delivered and were at full-capacity two weeks later.

The Lawrence family said there were still scars inside, "but it looked great considering what they went through. We're just happy we have a nice room so close to the Exposition Center," Lisa Lawrence of Paris, KY said.

This is the 15th consecutive year Louisville has hosted nearly 30,000 participants at the Kentucky Exposition Center, according to the Convention and Visitor's Bureau.

More than 10,000 vintage vehicles will be on display and several will be for sale. The National Street Rod Association indicated price ranges from $20,000 to $150,000.

The CVB said the four-day event includes a trade show, arts and crafts fair, a vintage auto parts swap meet, and entertainment on Friday and Saturday. More than 30 car builders will have vehicles on display.

The event continues throughout Saturday, Aug. 4 from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 5, from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.
