Muppets say "no way" to Chick-fil-A

Good afternoon, everyone; hope you're staying cool in this hot ETX weather!

Here's a sampling of what we're working on for you in the KLTV newsroom this afternoon:

As you've likely heard, today was "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day" around the country, after comments made by Dan Cathy, Chick-fil-A President & CEO started a controversy about whether marriage should only be between a man and a woman. Those who support Cathy's comments showed up in droves today at CFA restaurants, including those here in ETX.  However, some are not in agreement with this stance, including The Jim Henson Company, who says they will no longer provide Muppets toys to CFA for their kids' meals. We'll tell you much more at 5 about today's events and other events that are in the works in opposition to CFA's stance.

Also, Federal authorities arrested ten East Texans early this morning during a gun and trafficking raid in Henderson. Authorities say a lengthy investigation revealed the suspects have been distributing crack cocaine in the Henderson area for several years. KLTV's Jena Johnson spoke to one of the suspect's girlfriends who was home during the raid. You can check that out at 5.

Later, a pilot is hospitalized after his small plane crashed near an ETX airport. Authorities tell us the pilot took off from Mineola, but experienced mechanical difficulties. We'll tell you what happened at 6.

Last night, precincts in Upshur County reported that Paula Gentry won the Republican runoff for Upshur Co. Precinct one commissioner over James Crittenden. However, an apparent mistake on some of the  ballots could give Crittenden a second chance. We'll explain at 6.

There's so much more to tell you about that we're working on right now! An update on mailbox thefts in Rusk County (there have been more), an update on the Whitehouse Fire Department vote, as well as a body found in Van Zandt County median. Please make sure to join us at 5 and 6 for those stories and more, and visit KLTV.com to see the latest updates, 24 hours a day, seven days a week!

We'll see you soon!
