Bird Flu Found On East Texas Farm

A second flock of breeder chickens had to be destroyed in East Texas.

State officials say the 24,000 chickens were owned by Pilgrim's Pride. Preliminary tests show some of the birds were infected with the same strain of avian flu as the flock killed last week in Hopkins County.

These chickens were at a farm about 5 miles away from the original outbreak last week. Pilgrim's Pride said the birds were destroyed as a pre-emptive step.
