Severe Weather Causes Extensive Damage In East Texas

Severe thunderstorms moved through most of East Texas last night, leaving extensive damage in their wake.

At least one fatality is being blamed on the storms. Authorities in Franklin County say a man was killed last night when a tree crashed into his home. His name has not yet been released.

In Smith County , the weather is believed to be responsible for igniting a house fire on FM 2016 northwest of Tyler. Authorities arrived at the home at 11:30 p.m., and found it engulfed in flames. Fortunately, the homeowners were renovating the house and no one was living there. The actual cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

On Bois D`Arc avenue in Tyler, gusting winds pushed a tree onto a car and several power lines. The area was left without power as Tyler police and crews worked quickly to clear the area.
