COPY-Inmates being taken out of jail

Skycopter 3 captured video of officers walking inmates out of the Hinds County Detention Center. Other inmates could be seen running out of the jail one-by-one.

Atleast one inmate was being pushed in a wheelchair.

SWAT teams were seen staging outside the jail and on the roof of the jail.

Officials from the Hinds County Sheriff's Department and officers from a number of other law enforcement agencies had been trying to negotiate with inmates in the jail since about 7 a.m. Monday.

Police say a 25-year-old inmate named Kendall Johnson started a disturbance in Pod C around 3 a.m.

Hinds County Sheriff Tyrone Lewis said Monday morning he wants the inmates to go back into their pods. He said if the inmates don't go back, authorities will take force inside the jail.

It's uncertain whether or not the inmates have weapons on them, but Lewis said inmates may have shanks and pipes.

WLBT spoke with Johnson's mom and sister. The women said Johnson wouldn't start up trouble in the jail.

Johnson's sister Keyonna Johnson said her brother told her by phone he was beaten by deputies.

Authorities have cut off air and water in Pod C.

We're told that during the disturbance an inmate used a water hose to flood Pod C.

WLBT and continues to follow this developing situation.
