A hero to many American young women has died

Good afternoon, and happy Monday.  (Is that an oxymoron? Hmm.)

Anyway, here's just some of what we are working on for you in the KLTV newsroom this afternoon:

First, Sally Ride died peacefully on July 23rd, 2012 after a courageous 17-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Sally's historic flight into space captured the nation's imagination and made her a household name. She became a symbol of the ability of women to break barriers and a hero to generations of adventurous young girls. We'll have more on her at 5.

The accused Colorado theater shooter appeared for the first time in court today. He sat motionless and did not say a word, sitting beside his lawyer with his brightly-colored orange hair. KLTV's Melanie Torre has more on the hearing and the charges the DA is considering in this case.

At 6, we'll tell you about an ETX man who is dead after a Titus County deputy shot him last night. Authorities say they received a call from a child and said his father, Abraham Mesino, was trying to kill his mother. KLTV's Samantha Jordan will report from the scene to tell us more about what prompted the deputy to shoot Mesino.

Longview Police need your help finding a woman who has been passing stolen checks. Cameras in ULTA Cosmetics in Longview caught a picture of this woman on July 2. She reportedly passed a check that was stolen from a man's mailbox and altered. If you recognize the picture, above, you're asked to call Longview Police immediately.

And on the web, an ETX restaurant employee pours hot grease on a woman who entered the business with a bone to pick.

We'll see you soon!
