Thieves steal thousands of dollars worth of lawn equipment from ETX neighborhoods

On Tuesday July 10, 2012, Cherokee County Sheriff's Office responded to two reports of theft in the Shadybrook Subdivision on Lake Palestine near Bullard.

In both instances, riding lawn mowers, and other equipment, were stolen Monday night (July 9th) or early Tuesday morning (July 10th) before 5:00am.

   The first owner reported that the equipment was loaded on his trailer. The following was taken:
    1) "Master Trailer" brand 16ft trailer (7x16) w/tailgate, blk in color: $2,000
    2) Snapper 28" riding mower, red in color: $700
    3) John Deere 48", zero turn 245, riding mower, green in color: $6,000
    4) 5 gallon, yellow gas can: $7.00
        Total loss: $8,707

On Thursday July 12, 2012, deputies took a report on CR-1401 (O'Keefe) just west of Jacksonville.  The owners returned home at approximately 10:00am and discovered equipment missing from their workshop.  Among the items stolen during the night:

    1) TroyBilt 128T walk behind tiller, red in color: $225
    2) Craftsman 1HP, 2gal air compressor, red in color: $100
    3) Echo brand, gas powered weed trimmer, model SRM-225: $190
    4) Stihl brand, gas powered weed trimmer, model FS55R: $225
    5) Stihl brand, 16" chain saw: $250
        Total loss: $990

On Monday July 16, 2012 Deputies again responded to two separate reports of theft of riding mowers, less than one mile apart. This time the thefts occurred on Hwy 135 approximately four miles South of Troup.  The thefts occurred late Sunday night (15th) or early Monday morning (16th) before 4:00am.

The first owner reported his John Deere 48", zero turn mower was taken from under his carport and pushed through his yard and down the driveway to Hwy-135. Also taken was a 2 wheel dolly and a Remington 700 rifle. Total loss was approximately $4,480.

The second owner reported that her 27HP Swisher 60", zero turn mower was removed from a fenced in pole barn. The suspects simply cut the fencing and pushed the mower to Hwy 135.
Total loss: $4,000.
