Students at Tyler's Moore Magnet Middle School are showing their appreciation to our military in a new and unique way. The "Freedom Pens" project at Moore was initiated by industrial technology teacher James Mason. While a number of colleges and organizations are involved in the project, Moore is one of only two middle schools in the entire U.S. to make these elegant handcrafted pens to send to our military overseas. The freedom pens organization furnishes the pen kits; the school provides the wood and the students handcraft the wood into unique and beautiful pens. Each student also writes a letter to be sent along with their pen. Students have been very excited about their freedom pens project and take pride in being able to do something for their country.
