Authorities arrested a man who they say is responsible for a string of car thefts in East Texas, after he attempted to flee from officials in a stolen vehicle.

On Friday, the Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office dispatched officers to the area of FM 47 and FM 2475, north of Wills Point, in response to a call reporting a suspicious vehicle.

A deputy initiated a traffic stop once he located the vehicle, but the driver attempted to evade him by heading southbound towards Wills Point.

About that time, dispatch notified the deputy that the suspect vehicle had been reported stolen.

After a short pursuit, Jeremy Lee Daniel, of Point, bailed out of the vehicle and began fleeing on foot near the intersection of FM 47 and VZCR 3849.

Authorities were able to apprehend Daniel.

The Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office says Daniel is a person of interest in several vehicle thefts throughout the county.

Daniel is held in the Van Zandt County Jail on three counts of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and one count of evading arrest.

His bond is set at $155,000.

The sheriff's office says several other law enforcement agencies are currently seeking further charges on Daniel at this time.
