HOUSTON COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

One person is dead and eight injured following a five-vehicle wreck east of Crockett which has shut down both sides of the road on State Highway 7.

Three other people, including a person working at the construction site, were taken by helicopter to various hospitals.

Four vehicles - a Dodge pickup, Ford Ranger, a black Buick sedan and a silver Buick sedan - were stopped at a construction zone around 10:45 a.m. Monday when an 18-wheeler hit one of the vehicles from behind, causing a chain-reaction collision with the other vehicles.

Two of those flown for medical treatment went to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler, including the worker at the construction site. A third injured person was flown to Children's Hospital in Dallas.

Five people were taken to ETMC-Crockett.

The identities and conditions of those injured is not known at this time.
