Stand Strong for Tyler wants to validate alcohol petition signatures

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

After a brief, but public, battle, a local organization has its hands on the petitions to bring alcohol sales to Tyler.

Stand Strong for Tyler, which is against alcohol sales, submitted a request for a copy of the alcohol petitions under the freedom of information act.

KLTV also submitted that same request, but until Thursday, the City of Tyler said due to confidential information that may be recorded on those petitions, they could not release copies.

Stand Strong for Tyler hosted a press conference, asking city officials if they were hiding something. Shortly after, the city released the petitions without redacting any information.

On Friday, Stand Strong for Tyler shared their plans for those petitions.

"We need some time to basically look over the information, validate the information and we hope that they give us that time so we can at least make our findings known to them as far as the validity of all of these signatures," says Deon Williams of Stand Strong for Tyler.

Stand Strong for Tyler says they are not trying to publicize the names in the documents, they just want to have a chance to validate the signatures themselves.
