KILGORE, TX (KLTV) -
Kilgore Police have made an arrest in an early Tuesday morning manhunt.

Police and a DPS helicopter were called to the 600 block of Layton Street in Kilgore Tuesday morning after reports of a suspicious person shining a flashlight under a car.

That person, identified as Marcellia Jones, was wanted in Rusk County for driving without a valid license.

Police say when officers went to confront him, he assaulted an officer and took off.

Police canvassed Layton street for hours, searching for Jones. Neighbor Shelby Drennan says flashing police lights alarmed her.

"I just saw a cop car right there and there was about six or eight other vehicles around the house," said Drennan. "That's scary. That's really scary being right here close to home."

Kilgore Police Chief Todd Hunter says he doesn't talk to the media in person or on camera.
Over the phone, he told us Jones ran from officers telling them he didn't want to go to jail. During a struggle, Hunter says Jones assaulted an officer.

Authorities say the officer that was assaulted was not seriously injured.
