The animals rescued from a Kilgore home now belong to the SPCA. A judge made that decision this morning at a hearing in Gladewater. Yesterday, SPCA investigators said the 31 animals were kept in horrible conditions.
The dogs, cats, and birds were stacked in cages caked with their own filth. Most did not have clean food or water, and were unable to stand or move in their cages. Officials believe the elderly woman who lives at the home simply couldn't take care of the animal's daily needs. The animals are now in Dallas getting medical attention, and will soon be put up for adoption.
