SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

Police have identified the East Texas man who fled from police Friday evening.

Christopher Morris, 30, of Lindale led police on a chase after failing to pull over during a routine traffic stop.

State Trooper Richard Hoover said Morris was passing in a no passing zone.

Trooper Hoover said Morris eventually pulled over on County Road 47 in Tyler. He reportedly jumped out of the car and took off into the woods.

Dogs were called in to help track down Morris, but officials say they lost the trail when they came to a creek.

While police took off into the woods after Morris, a man only described as a black male, reportedly scooted over into the driver's seat and sped off.

Shortly after the chase, that truck was reported as stolen. The vehicle is registered to 25-year-old Antonina Fray in Tyler.

When police went to speak with Fray, they discovered it was her boyfriend who had failed to pullover during the traffic stop.

Fray told police that he had not contacted her and she did not know where he was. She also told police that she did not know the identity of the black male.

The Texas Department of Public Safety have issued a warrant for Christopher Morris' arrest. They are asking the public to please call the police if you have any information as to Morris' whereabouts.

Once found, Trooper Hoover said he will be arrested for evading arrest.

The search also continues for the driver of the stolen pickup. It is a white, single cab dodge pickup with the license plate number B-L-3-8-1-7-2.

Again, if you have any information regarding this case, please contact police.
