AUSTIN, TEXAS - The UIL Standing Committed on Policy passed a proposal this morning (Tuesday) that seeks to add a 4th playoff team, in all sports, to Class 3A and 2A.
The proposal must still be approved by the UIL legislative council in October.
If approved, the changes would occur at the beginning of the 2013-14 academic season.
It would also mean that all 11-man football championships would be played on the same weekend at the same location.
Currently, the 3A Division I football title game is played a week before the rest of the championships.
Adding a fourth team to the playoffs would eliminate first-round byes for district champions, UIL athletic director Mark Cousins said.
