Boomtown USA, located in the East Texas Oil Museum on the Kilgore College Campus, takes its visitors back in time to the year 1930. The largest oil field inside U.S. boundaries had just been discovered in East Texas and it was to change forever the rural region, the state, and in some ways, even the world. Museum Director Joe White describes Boomtown as "a full scale town of stores, people, animals and machinery, depicting a town booming with oil."
The Oil Museum, which opened in 1980, was originally funded by H.L. Hunt's Placid Oil Company and is supported by gifts, grants and admissions. The Oil Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 to 4 and Sundays from 2 to 5.
