Trade days benefits volunteer fire department

An East Texas volunteer fire department has gotten funding help in a unique way. Members of the Judson Metro VFD were trying to raise money at Longview's trade days, and were overwhelmed at the space and materials donated.

"The fire departments main job as always is to help the public and to do that we need equipment and training," says Judson Metro firefighter Gayland Rushing.

The 2011 summer fires drained Judson financially , and without state or county funding , they need money for even the simplest things to function.

"Our funds were depleted last year due to all the wildfires we're expecting the same type of situation this year. We need funds to put gas in our equipment, buy new fire hose, a new pair of boots a new pair of gloves or even a new hat. Every little bit helps," says firefighter Whitney Abel.

Vendors donated 11 booths to Judson, and much of their items for sale, hundreds of dollars of items from anonymous donors. Judson is hoping to raise around 15-hundred dollars from the two day event.
