Longview Regional Medical Center announced Tuesday an expansion and renovation of a portion of their hospital and campus.
The multi-million dollar project will include 175, 000 square feet of new construction and the addition of almost 100 patient beds; nearly doubling the size of the facilities on the hospitals campus.
Longview Regional Medical Center CEO Jim Kendrick said this plan has been in the works for some time and he is happy to see it come to fruition, so the hospital can serve the community better.
"It's a great community, great hospital, with great employees. We're just really excited about what we've been able to do to grow the services, grow our employee base and bring more services to the community," Kendrick said.
Kendrick said the project will have a ground breaking ceremony on June 21 and construction is expected to begin in July.
Kendrick could not release the total costs the renovation will require, but said it will be covered by investments from the hospital and its parent, Community Health Systems.
The project will include a new three-story tower as well as the addition of third and fourth floors to the existing structure.
The expansion and renovation is expected to be complete by December 2013.
