The Wood County Game Warden confirmed 27-year-old Marcos Daniel Hernandez died in a drowning Monday evening.
The drowning happened around 6:40p.m. on Lake Hawkins, located between Hawkins and Mineola.
The Game Warden, Derek Spitzer, said Hernandez swam out to a yellow buoy and on his return, began to struggle in the water.
Once he began to struggle, people along the shore called 9-1-1. Witnesses told Spitzer that several people dove in to try to save him. Spitzer said Hernandez was underwater for 20-30 before they were able to retrieve his body.
EMS personnel pronounced Hernandez dead on the scene.
