There was some resistance tonight in a meeting between parents, administrators and community members making steps toward finding a replacement for John Tyler High School principal, Dr. Aubrey Todd. The focus group of about 100 people at Ramey Elementary school was intended to develop a profile to be used during the hiring process. However, the majority of those who attended tonight's meeting continued to push for the re-hire of Dr. Todd. Those leading the meeting tried to proceed with a list of questions, but those in the crowd continually voiced their support for Dr. Todd.
A former John Tyler student, Kevin Hampton, said, "We're looking for someone who has the same integrity, the same honest belief that Dr. Todd has. So, when we get up here we're basically going to tell you, we want Dr. Todd."
The director of TISD human resources, Sharon Roy, said after tonight's scheduled meeting, a smaller group stayed behind.. They were able to discuss the future of John Tyler in a more relaxed setting and were able to come up with a profile.
