Stephenson pleads not guilty to Aurora murder; Bail denied.
LAWRENCEBURG, IN (FOX19) -
Accused murderer Charles "Steve" Stephenson was arraigned in Dearborn County court Thursday charged with killing Leigh Jennings, 67, in her Aurora home on March 29th.
Stephenson faces charges of murder in robbery after prosecutors say he stole one thousand dollars from Jennings and beat her death with a pepper grinder and cooking skillet. According to Dearborn County prosecutor, Aaron Negangard, Jennings' family was "...pleased when we filed murder charges on him. They were confident, of course, that he wouldn't be getting out of jail anytime soon and so they will be pleased to know that he's not getting out of jail anytime soon." Bail for Stephenson was denied by the Dearborn County judge presiding over the case.
Speaking about Stephenson, Jennings' friend, Laura Lesko said, "This man has no clue what most human beings feel in their hearts."
Stephenson has been held in Boone County on charges of tampering with evidence and drug trafficking since April 13th. Those charges are "on hold" while his case in Dearborn County is contested.
A pre-trail hearing for Stephenson has been for July.
