First U.S. female Olympic boxer named

NEW YORK, NY (CNN) - According to the New York Times, Marlen Esparza is the first American female boxer to qualify for the London Olympics.

Women's boxing makes its debut as an Olympic event at this summer's Games.

While men have 10 weight divisions, there are only three for women ...

Featherweight at 112 pounds, lightweight at 132 pounds and middleweight at 165 pounds.

22-year-old Esparza, from Houston, is the only featherweight from the Americas left in the competition.

She defeated a Vietnamese boxer Tuesday in the world boxing championships in China.
