WEB EXCLUSIVE: Police: Senior prank lands students in trouble

LEE COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - Senior pranks have been taking place for years and this year the graduating seniors at Glenwood School in Phenix City took it to a whole new level.

News Leader 9 has learned the students involved in the prank will not actually be charged, but their actions have other districts issuing a warning.

Phenix City Police Chief Ray Smith told News Leader 9, "Yesterday morning we were called to Glenwood School about the items that were left in the school and the damage that was done: books thrown around, desks pulled out, sand poured out in the hallway. It was obviously a prank."

Inside the school police found a chicken in a bucket rigged above a door, crickets and fish food, and even mice hidden inside desk drawers.

Chief Smith said, "I don't know of any injuries. There were mice released inside the building, a chicken released inside the building, crickets I understand. But I do not have any knowledge to any injuries to the animals per say."

Since this is the season for seniors to pull pranks at their high school, the Muscogee County School District sent a message to parents encouraging them to talk with their kids about the consequences of pulling pranks.

The message reads: "The behavior code and discipline policies of the Muscogee County School District will continue to be enforced for students involved in misconduct, pranks or practical jokes, which can result in suspension, expulsion, tribunal hearings, alternative school settings, arrest, criminal charges, and could result in your child not participating in graduation exercises."

Administrators at Glenwood School have not returned News Leader 9's phone calls or e-mails requesting information on the fate of the seniors behind the prank. The Phenix City Police Department tells News Leader 9 without prosecution, they cannot move forward with the case. Any discipline will have to come from the school.
