Balloons Released To Bring Awareness To Foster Children

May is foster care month. Tuesday 16,000 balloons were released around the state to raise awareness of foster children.

Hundreds of balloons were launched in Longview today. Dozens watched as the balloons floated into the sky over the Church at Grace Creek.

Several foster families attended the launch and were honored for their dedication to foster children.

Judge Robin Sage says there is a growing need for more foster families in east Texas and across the nation.

"In Gregg County we have approximately 225 children that need foster homes of course if you extrapolate that to the state it's a great deal more. Nationwide there's about 560,000 children that need foster care outside their parent's homes," said Judge Sage.

After the balloon release, several people participated in training course to help care for foster children.
