Celebrity Chef Helps Raise Money for Local Charity

It was a little bit of tasting and a little bit learning that helped raise money in Tyler Saturday.

The first ever "Cookin' Up Homes with Habitat" was hosted at the Ornelas Activity Center in Tyler. The event was put on by Habitat for Humanity of Smith County and proceeds go towards the building of a new home for one low income family.

Celebrity chef Curtis Aikens was the special guest. He put on his special brand of cooking class. Aikens said the event just makes sense.

"I feel like that sense of home, we got that sense of home when we're around the table, we get that sense of community when we share something like this and we're building two homes here in Tyler for habitat for humanity," he said. "I think this cause, people will come out to support it."

Officials hope to raise about $20,000 dollars from this weekend's events.
