Several Restaurants Have Critical Violations

Dairy Queen, 1203 W. Duval in Troup was inspected April 6th.  Sausage at 60F, eggs at room temperature.  Both must be 41F or below or properly re-heated.   Employees must wash hands between handling raw products and ready-to-eat foods. Dirty utensils found in hand sink.  Toilet bowl cleaner stored next to sugar.  Total demerits: 18.  A recheck is not on file. 

Ryan's, 5602 S. Broadway in Tyler was inspected April 13th. Employees must wash hands between handling raw products and ready-to-eat foods. Sink was found leaking.  Pans with food debris needed washing.  Total demerits: 17.  A recheck is not on file.

Shogun of Japan, 5515 S. Broadway in Tyler was inspected April 14th. Shrimp thawing in 45F standing water (against regulations). Raw chicken stored above shrimp. Rodent bait below the counter was not in a tamper-proof container. Also, the inspector took pictures of serious structural problems.  Total demerits: 15.  A recheck is not on file.

Cancun, 2222 ESE Loop 323 in Tyler was inspected April 6th. Hamburger at 58F, chimichanga at 60F.  A handsink was not working.  Total demerits: 15.  On a recheck the next day, taco meat was at 61F.  Foods in a cooler needed labeling.  Total demerits: 9.  No further recheck ordered. 

Shuck-a-Peel, 2324 ESE Loop 323 in Tyler was inspected April 5th. All foods in walk-in cooler at 46-56F. More than 85 lbs. of food was thrown out.  Soap was needed at a handsink.  Total demerits: 15. On a recheck the next day, towels were needed at a handsink. Total demerits: 3. No further recheck ordered.
