ETX home builders: kitchen is the new hang out spot

The Parade of Homes is just around the corner, and East Texas builders are working hard to get the latest, cool features in the houses.

Kitchens are becoming the new hangout spot in the house. So homeowners and builders are packing them full with new features that are both practical and good for social gatherings

One of the really cool, new features is the cabinets; when they close they don't slam shut.

"The types of hinges are self closing so they won't allow it to slam," said home builder Todd Williams.

Williams said there are certain amenities that have become pretty hot in the kitchen world.

"A double oven is one of the most popular things asked for, the under counter ice maker and a big island with a vegetable sink," said Williams.

Another new feature is the pot filler. It's a way to fill your pots with water from the stove, without having to go to the sink to fill it up.

Over on the ceiling, there are miniature fans that keep things moving once you start cooking.

"When you're in here cooking it's just here to help keep the air flow going," said Williams.

From kitchen cabinets that wont slam to filling your pots with water from the stove; the kitchen is fast becoming the hang spot in the heart of the home.

Parade of homes will begin June 2 through June 10.

This year they will have 36 homes open to the public.
