Record Drug Bust In Smith County

Narcotics officers call it the largest drug bust in Smith County History. Just after nine this morning on Interstate 20, Deputy Mark Waters pulled over a tan mini-van.  In the back of the van he discovered almost 300 pounds of marijuana and 20 pounds of cocaine. The street value of the drugs is estimated to be about $700,000.
Deputy Waters says he was making what he thought was a routine traffic stop.  "I noticed a little bit of nervousness and possibly that he was involved in some criminal activity. I asked for consent to search on the vehicle he granted it with no problem, very cooperative, and upon opening the backdoor of the vehicle I noticed large quantities of marijuana."
The suspect James Henry Mcnealy is in the Smith County jail tonight.  He faces felony charges for aggravated possession of marijuana and cocaine.  Those felony charges could carry a sentence of several months to life.
