Student Says She's Attacked At Gilmer High School

Security at school campuses in Gilmer increased today after a student says she was attacked at school.
It happened yesterday at Gilmer High School in a stairwell of the school's vocational building.
The student says, as she was going to lunch, a stranger grabbed her from behind and drug her down the stairs . That's when she bit the attacker, and was able to get away.
School officials were notified of the attack by a teacher who overheard the girl telling another student what happened.
Principal Gary Whitwell said at this point there were no firm suspects in the case. "Her description of the individual was sketchy," he said. "We searched all of our classrooms and found no one that met that description. But we are being as vigilant about it as we can."
The school was put on lock down today. Doors to classrooms were closed and locked; and access to entrances was limited.
Gilmer police patrolled the inside and outside of the high school.
