Accused Murderer Pleads Guilty

A Tyler man accused of murdering a former high school friend at a bookstore pled guilty today to murder. Jury selection was scheduled to begin today, but was called off after the plea.

Twenty-four-year-old Zaid Albana was arrested and charged last June in the shooting death of Roozbeh Arianpour.

Albana turned himself in just two days after the murder he claimed was done in revenge. The shooting happened at night in the parking lot of the Barnes & Noble in Tyler. Police say Albana shot Arianpour with a high-powered rifle and then followed his former classmate as he stumbled into the store.

The punishment phase is scheduled to begin tomorrow. Albana could get up to life in prison.
