East Texan Taken in NFL Draft

A former Kilgore college football player is headed to the pro's after being drafted by the Atlanta Falcons. An outstanding linebacker at Nebraska, Longview native Demorrio Williams was patiently waiting today to see if he would be drafted in the fourth round of the NFL draft.

"After I didn't see his name I was like oh my God, I got nervous I got worried I believed it was going to happen I just didn't know when it was going to happen," says Williams mother Veronica Hicks.

"I get kind of worried but this type of deal you know I wanted to go high for my family and myself so its one of those deals you get nervous about," said Williams. A standout at Kilgore college he led a defense that sparked an undefeated season, he transferred to Nebraska where he developed a reputation as a ferocious tackler with an uncanny radar for being around the ball, but into the four round he was still waiting.

Hour after hour went by, team after team, and hope seemed to fade, until the 101st pick came up and the Atlanta Falcons chose him.

"What a relief a bunch of screaming and crying , and just happy," says Hicks. "I want to go to the NFL and be known as one of the best players on the field one day," Williams says.

Williams is a former Butkus award semi-finalist and was chosen to the first team all big 12.
