East Texas Soldier Thankful For "Warm" Gift

Tyler native John Howard came back to East Texas this past weekend. He had spent the past five months serving with the 82nd Airborne Division in Iraq.

While in Iraq, one of Howard's most valuable luxuries was a blanket he received from a hometown girl scout troop. Tuesday night, Howard had a chance to meet the girl's of Troop 466.

The girls began making the blankets as a fundraiser, hoping to raise money for a trip this summer. However, when they heard of the need by soldiers fighting in Iraq, they decided to send one to Howard.

The girls have made about 50 other blankets. They say they've raised about $200 so far. They also plan to send a couple of the blankets back with Howard to pass out to other soldiers at his base in North Carolina.
