Verna McClain: I am not a monster!

It looks like we've just about made it through another Monday; hope it's been a good one for you!

Here's some of what we're working on for you this afternoon in the KLTV newsroom:

With a capital murder charge hanging over her head, Verna McClain, who authorities say shot a 28-year-old mom and snatched her newborn son, says "I'm not a monster."  KLTV's Anissa Centers will tell you what else McClain has to say tonight at 5, and she'll share some odd text messages that McClain's fiance says she sent him before the crime.

Also at 5, we'll show you the progress that has been made in lower Manhattan as "One World Trade Center" became NY's tallest skyscraper. As you can imagine, it has been an emotional day for many workers and observers at the site of the 9/11 attacks.

We'll also have Dr. Ed Dominguez with us tonight, and he'll discuss with us a new study that shows one in five obese teens and young people are seriously struggling with Type II diabetes. It's important information for those of us who know and love someone in that age group.

We told you on Saturday about the tragic loss of an 2-year-old ETX toddler, Sydney Jane Farris, who died after an accident that night wherein a man was driving on the wrong side of the road and slammed into her dad's vehicle. Her father was seriously injured in the accident, as well. Now a memorial fund is now set up to help with Sydney Jane's funeral expenses. KLTV's Jena Johnson spoke with some folks who are close to the family as they share what they are hoping to do to help.

We'll also update you tonight on the latest in the story of Carmel Foster, the ETX salon owner who is accused of performing medical services without a license in the back room of her salon, including breast injections which sent one woman to the hospital. Our Melanie Torre spoke with KLTV's Melanie Torre today, and she'll be with us at 6 with what Carmel had to say from jail.

We'll see you soon,

Stephanie Frazier
