Wheelchair Games Held in Tyler

It's a one of a kind event and it's held right here in East Texas. The 6th annual East Texas Wheelchair games were held this weekend in Tyler.

The games are a way for those with spinal cord injuries to compete in a variety of athletic events. Saturday afternoon the group took to the track at Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler for races including the 50-meter, the 100-meter and the 400-meter relay.

Participants said the games are not only a way for them to compete, but to inspire others.

"I like to show people that handicap people can be seen and can do just about anything that they put their mind to do," said Michael Carpenter.

Prizes were given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, but everyone who showed up today got a medal for their participation.
