It's the big 4-0 for Amtrak Exhibit Train

The historic Longview Junction Train Depot was hopping Friday, as the city hosted the 40th anniversary Amtrak Exhibit Train.

East Texas children were able to explore the train, and catch some live music and other entertainment, as well.

The fun is not over! You can still see the exhibit Saturday from 10 to 4 at the Longview Junction Train Depot. Admission is free!

From the City of Longview:

(Longview, TX) The City of Longview is proud to host the 40th Anniversary Amtrak Exhibit Train and various related activities on April 27 – 29, 2012. Amtrak is celebrating 40 years as America's Railroad with a special exhibit train which has toured the country. The free exhibit showcases rail travel over the decades, displaying memorabilia including vintage advertising, past menus and dinnerware, period uniforms, and photographs. The event will take place at the Historic Longview Junction Train Depot, 905 Pacific Ave. The exhibit will be free and open to the public from 10 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Saturday, April 28, and Sunday, April 29.

The exhibit train will host an "Education Day" for children from area schools on Friday, April 27. An opening ceremony for the exhibit train and a groundbreaking for the Historic Longview Junction Train Depot restoration project will take place at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 27.

In addition to the exhibit train, the event will include activities for children, such as the "Chuggington Depot" featuring the popular children's television series, stories, coloring, pictures, and more. Other activities will include live entertainment, music, and vendors.

Parking is limited at the train depot, so visitors are encouraged to park at the downtown parking lots located on Cotton Street between High Street and Fredonia Street. Free shuttles will be provided on Saturday and Sunday between the parking lots and the train depot.

According to City Councilwoman Kasha Williams, "Longview is very fortunate to be one of the stops for this special exhibit train. We are one of only a few cities in Texas to be able to host the event. I want to thank all the members of the Mayor's Task Force on Passenger Rail, Amtrak, and all of our regional partners for making this event possible."
