JT Principal Aubrey Todd Talks About Reassignment

"It's a place where I have seen a positive change in the overall school climate." Dr. Aubrey Todd says he is comfortable with the decisions he has made as principal at John Tyler High School. He believes signficant improvements have been made at the campus during his four years.  That includes improvements taken as a whole that are enough he thinks to keep his job.

"I felt like if those things had been kept in mind and you looked at the total picture, then I think I would not be in the position I am in today."

Since the word spread in Janurary that TISD superintendent Dr. David Simmons was considering removing Todd from the principal's office, there has been a growing group of parents who have vocally rallied in his support.

"It has been inspirational to me that the community has seen the work I have done and felt like it is something they want to support. As a whole the school had made significant achievement overall and consequently they felt like and I felt like that all those things should have been weighed heavier than some of the other factors," says Todd.

He says he was never given a lot of specifics about what should be done differently at John Tyler. And while he has not yet decided if he will accept reassignment, he does take pride in the changes he's made at JT and the discussion that has ensued in the community concerning the high school.

"We would all be well served to have some genuine diagloge about the real issues that face Tyler ISD and it's not anything that is insurmountable. But I think both sides need to come together and work on those kinds of issues," says Todd.
