John Tyler Principal To Be Reassigned

John Tyler High School Principal Dr. Aubrey Todd was told this morning he would be reassigned at the end of this school year. Superintendent Dr. David Simmons told Todd of the plan in a private meeting Monday morning.

Todd will remain as principal at John Tyler High School for the remainder of the school year. He will then be reassigned to a different campus-level administrative post prior to July 1, 2004. He will also be eligible to apply for other positions within TISD.

Dr. Todd's future at John Tyler has been in question since the first of the year. A group of parents  banded together to urge the administration to keep Todd as principal. Dr. David Simmons says it was a combination of things such as test scores and administrative issues that convinced him it was time for a change at John Tyler.

One of the leaders of the parent group, John Johnson, said today he plans to continue the fight to save Dr. Todd's job.

Simmons says the decision is final and the search for a replacement will begin immediately. The district will use a committee of district level administrators, campus personnel and community representatives to help screen and interview prospective candidates. Dr. Simmons hopes to make a recommendation on a new John Tyler Principal before June 1, 2004.

As for Dr. Todd's reaction, he did not return our phone calls today.
