It's time to say good-bye to district 11-5A. The four team district will be gone starting next football season. Lee, John Tyler and Longview joining with metroplex teams and Lufkin going south. The last go-round for the great East Texas district began Friday night. Lufkin held on to win 7-6 over Lee, while Longview beat John Tyler 11-4.

New Diana defeated Harmony Friday night 5-2. New Diana is 17-0, 3-0 in district. Andy Malone, one of my favorite coaches, has done a great job with that team.

LeTourneau University ran into a buzz saw on Friday afternoon against American Southwest Conference East Division rival Mississippi College and dropped the first game of the three game series, 16-6. The #9 ranked Choctaws (19-5, 10-0) jumped out to an early lead by scoring six runs in the first inning.

Pine Tree defeated Nacogdoches 3-2 in the Regional Finals, earning a trip to the state tournament for the Pirates. On the way, Pine Tree eliminated both other teams from their district, knocking out both Kilgore and Macintoshes.

And a Texan is on the Texas pole. Bobby LaBonte took the pole for the Samsung/Radio Shack 500 Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway. LaBonte is originally from Corpus Christi, this is his second straight pole at TMS. However, the polesitter has never won the race.
