East
Texas Medical Center Tyler will recognize its volunteers and award scholarships
to junior volunteers during its annual volunteer awards luncheon at Willow
Brook Country Club Wednesday, April 18.
Hayes
Caldwell, executive director of the Caldwell Zoo, will be the guest speaker and
will discuss the history and legacy of the zoo.
"Our
72 active volunteers contributed 20,764 hours of service to the hospital and
related ETMC facilities in 2011 – a gift of their time and talents equivalent
to a half a million dollars," said Bob Evans, ETMC Tyler
administrator/CEO. Forty-three junior
volunteers participated in the summer program. ETMC also has five PetPals
volunteers and six chaplaincy volunteers. "This is a tremendous
contribution. We're proud to honor our
volunteers at this event. Their helping
hands and caring hearts truly enhance our healthcare environment," Evans said.
Recipients
of ETMC Junior Volunteer Scholarships are: Victoria Bowie and Shiva Reddy, Chapel Hill
High School; Elizabeth Fikes, Jeremy Obach, Kevin Ridad and Bianca Suarez,
Bishop T.K. Gorman HS; Chance Hughes, Whitehouse HS; Marygayle Martin, Robert
E. Lee HS; Roquel Pettigrew and Diana Rodriguez, John Tyler HS; and Javi Virk,

"Extraordinary
things happen at ETMC Tyler, and our volunteer family makes it possible," said
Jacque Fowler, volunteer resources director.
"Men and women with big hearts and a joy for serving others comprise our
volunteers. Whether people are 19 or 90,
we have a place in our volunteer resources department for them."
