Teen bicyclist dies after being dragged by truck on Loop 323
TYLER, TX (KLTV) -
A Tyler teenager is dead after being dragged by a pickup truck on the Loop in Tyler Monday morning.
The accident on S. Loop 323 near Old Troup Highway, in front of Green Acres Bowl, happened just after 8:30 Monday morning.
say Allen Hall, 15, of Tyler, was riding on the shoulder headed
westbound on the eastbound side of S. Loop 323 when a white pick up
truck, pulling out of Green Acres Bowl, hit the cyclist.
Hall died from his injuries at ETMC, officials say.
driver of the 2011 GMC Sierra did not see the bicyclist and continued
on a few yards before seeing a backpack in the roadway, and realizing he
had hit something-- or someone, stopped just before the railroad tracks
at Old Troup Highway.
The driver, identified as 63-year-old Michael Rose, dragged the boy approximately 100 feet before stopping.
Both lanes of eastbound Loop 323 have reopened.
Hall was taken to ETMC with severe head trauma immediately following the accident.
Hall was a student at Robert E. Lee.
Tyler ISD Superintendent Randy Reid released the following statement early Monday afternoon:
are deeply saddened by the unexpected loss of Allen Hall, one of our
Robert E. Lee High School students. Our thoughts and prayers go out to
his family and friends. We know this will be a difficult time for many
of our students. Our school counselors will be available to help them
cope with the loss of their classmate.
