Soldiers Honored in East Texas

Three soldiers, just a week removed from their duties in Iraq, were honored in East Texas Saturday.

Private Chris King, specialist TJ Adcox and Sergeant Brock Blanton all were honored at Canton's Democratic Convention held today on the grounds of First Monday Trade Days.

Blanton graduated high school in Canton and now lives with his wife and 4-year-old son in Killeen. Adcox is from Kentucky and King is from Wisconsin. All three met in the military and are based at Fort Hood.

Blanton's mother still lives in Canton.

Along with handshakes and thank you's the group received gift bags. Adcox said the welcome was great.

"Texas is amazing," he said. I couldn't believe how many people support the troops in Texas. It's a very welcoming feeling."

The talk inevitably turned to the war, but the soldiers, including Blanton, said everyone was supportive of them.

"Lots of people disagree with the political views of it but they understand as far as where the soldiers come from we're all just doing our jobs."

The three soldiers must return to duty at Fort Hood next week. Both Adcox and King said they hope to return home themselves within the next few months.
