Bishop Thomas K. Gorman Press Release

Bishop Thomas K. Gorman Regional Catholic School announced today the hiring of Jeff Smith as the school's Athletic Director.

Smith (B. A. Northwood Institute) brings over 16 years of extensive athletic experience as teacher and coach, and has served the last seven years as Athletic Director at Grace Community School. Mr. Smith has vast knowledge of the TAPPS league, currently serving as a member of the TAPPS Athletic Executive committee.

During his tenure as Athletic Director at Grace, Smith was responsible for the startup of both the football and girls soccer programs in both the junior high and high schools. Smith also acted as girls varsity basketball coach for 14 years, achieving two district championships and one final four appearance.

Current Gorman Athletic Director Mr. Ricky Palmer will continue at Gorman, moving to concentrate on the growth of the Gorman football program, assuming Head coaching of the 7th to 12th grade teams as well as teaching responsibilities.

"Jeff Smith brings a wealth of experience in directing an athletic program to Gorman. His expertise and familiarity with athletics in Tyler as well as in TAPPS is an enormous asset to the Crusaders. We are very pleased with this new direction for Gorman athletics," said Jim Franz, Gorman Principal.

"Through the years I have earned great respect for Gorman's students, faculty and families and look forward to working together to achieve excellence," said Smith.

Bishop Thomas K. Gorman Regional Catholic School is the oldest private secondary school in Smith County, with a primary goal of the ongoing formation of the Christian person. Gorman aims at the development of the individual's moral, intellectual, social, cultural and physical endowments.
