Black Leaders Speak Out At TISD Board Meeting

It wasn't on the agenda, but became a topic of discussion at tonight's Tyler ISD school board meeting. Black community leaders came together to discuss the position of John Tyler High School principal Dr. Aubrey Todd. Superintendent Dr. David Simmons had proposed Todd resign from his position and be re-assigned because the district wants to head in a different direction. Tonight, several members of the North Tyler community voiced their support of Todd, including John Tyler parents and the student council president. They all tried to emphasize the positive things Todd has done for John Tyler, hoping the board will recommend Todd stay as principal. The man leading the effort says he feels encouraged by the community's support tonight.

"I feel invigorated by the attendance tonight, by the attitude of the people here," John Johnson, parent of a John Tyler student, said. "They were orderly. They are very interested and they support their principal. And I think this is an asset in any community when you have a community totally behind a seated principal that's doing an outstanding job."

Dr. Simmons declined to comment on camera. He did say there still is no timeline to decide on Dr. Todd's position, but as of now, Todd is still principal at John Tyler.

For the most part 7-on-7 can be a fair indicator of how well a team is shaping up. Do they need a lot or a little work. Unless you're the Longview Lobos.  The Lobos have always been so strong at the run game, that they could have a terrible 7-on-7 season and still come out dominating on Friday nights.  But what would happen, if the Lobos got balanced?  Well District 11-6A better start prepping, because for the first time since 2013 the Lobos have a stable pass ga...More >>
