Two Accidents Cause I-20 To Shut Down

The outside lanes of Interstate 20 were closed for about an hour this evening after a series of accidents. One happened on the Van Zandt County, Smith County line, just west of Lindale. It caused one of the westbound lanes to close. A truck with a trailer lost control, according to DPS, and veered across the highway. It was then broad sided by a Nissan Altima. The driver of the Altima, 45 year old Diane Shackelford, was care-flighted to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the truck, 53 year old Daniel Rodriguez, was slightly injured. His passenger was not injured. Just about half a mile west from this accident, an 18-wheeler hit the back of another 18-wheeler, jack-knifed into the median, blocking the eastbound lane. Authorities tell us the accidents were speed and weather related.
