Easter in East Texas

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

Sunday afternoon, several East Texans ventured outside to celebrate Easter. We captured a toddler's first Easter and a man's eighty-seventh. Both celebrated with an Easter egg hunt at the veteran's home in Tyler.

"He will be one tomorrow, and this is his first Easter," said mother Kelsey McHenry while holding her son.

"He did good; we are going to have another one when we get home," she said.

Joe Smith had just as much fun celebrating his eighty-seventh Easter. The staff at the veteran's home helped hold a bag while he picked up the eggs. By the time he was finished, his bag was overflowing. When asked when the last time he participated in an Easter egg hunt, he responded, "I couldn't tell you."

Families held their own Easter egg hunts in Bergfeld Park in Tyler. One family said they spent hours dyeing eggs and were glad the weather cooperated.

"We're loving it, it's beautiful out here today. The kids are all having fun and just barbecuing, relaxing and having a good time," said grandmother Myrene Zuniga.

Her daughter, Christina, has a son of her own who was celebrating his second Easter.

"He is 14 months old and he is going to have fun. He barely started walking too. So, it's going to be exciting to watch him trying to walk around," Christina said.
