Official: More than 650 homes destroyed by Forney tornado

So far, the National Weather Service has confirmed 16 tornadoes touched down in Texas. And one of those tornadoes was classified as an EF-3.

The violent storms and funnels caused widespread damage in the Dallas area Tuesday, but one of the hardest hit areas was Forney,  located on Highway 80 about 75 miles from Tyler.

On Wednesday, people began to assess the impact of these tornadoes and its endless path of destruction.

After Tuesday's violent tornadoes, rescue crews in the Dallas area continue to search through the damage and debris for anyone who might still be trapped.

The powerful twisters left dozens of homes flattened and produced
these incredible images of tractor-trailers flying in the air.

The National Weather Service says about a dozen tornadoes touched down in North Texas Tuesday, and officials now estimate at least 650 homes have been destroyed.

There have been reports of injuries, but fortunately, so far, no
one has been killed.

Forney Mayor Darren Rozell says, "Our outdoor sirens went off. We also have a system set up where by folks can be notified by text, email, or phone. That system worked."

The storm had a devastating effect, with some residents finding returning home to find nothing.

But many were just thankful to be alive.

Lindsey Enoch's mother saved her son and two other children by seeking shelter in a bathtub as a twister approached.

"She hold on to his feet and the wind kept taking him," says Enoch, "she hold on to him and he is fine; he is here"

Nineteen-month-old Abigail, was at the babysitter's in Forney when the tornado hit. Her dad, who rushed to pick her up, couldn't believe what he found.

Abigail's dad Andy Jones says, "When I turned the corner and looked at the house the house wasn't there."

Amazingly, the children and the baby sitter all survived.
