Jimmy Houston visits Tyler

Best known for kissing every bass he catches, most fishing fans are all too familiar with Jimmy Houston.  Known as Americas favorite fisherman, the fishing pro has hosted national outdoor shows for the last 35 years

Houston was in Tyler Tuesday night at Green Acres Baptist Church for a men's catfish fry. Houston was happy to sign autographs and take pictures with fans.  The national fishing favorite loves East Texas, and says he nearly moved to Nacgodoches several years ago.

"East Texas has the best fishing in the world," said Houston.

Instead of moving to Texas, he stayed in Oklahoma.  He's done pretty well, winning over one million dollars in bass tournaments.

"I remember back after I graduated from college, my wife and I would go during the spawning season to Arkansas and fish everyday in spring time," said Houston.  "I remember my dad telling me 'All you care about is fishing and you won't amount to nothing.' He was right. I'm still fishing."

Houston was named to the Pro Bass Fishing Hall of Fame in 2002.
