High-Speed Chase Ends In Arrest

A high-speed chase in Smith County ends with a wanted man going to jail. It all started today when a state trooper tried to stop a driver for speeding, but the driver wouldn't stop. The suspect ended up crashing into a ditch along I-20 near F.M. 2015. Twenty-five-year-old Jonathan Rivers was wanted out of Gregg County for assault and family violence. He's now charged with evading arrest, aggravated assault, and drug possession. DPS troopers say they saw Rivers throwing what apparently turned out to be crack-cocaine out the window, while he was speeding away from troopers.

"He was changing lanes in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed," Capt. Audra Livingston said. "One of the troopers' vehicle, one of our units pulled up beside him, and he attempted to run that vehicle off the road."

After the wreck, Rivers was taken to the hospital with minor scratches and cuts. Right now he's in the Smith County Jail.
