Taste of Longview: Great food, good cause

Posted: Updated:

If you're a foodie, two Longview organizations have just the event for you Tuesday night.

The 30-th annual Taste of Longview is happening tonight at Maude Cobb Convention Center, and event organizers say people will literally line up for hours tonight to get all that Longview has to offer.

"Oh, it's so exciting. Everybody is out the door. The line will be all the way out to the street because everybody is so excited to get in and everybody's just wanting to taste all the tasty good bits of Longview," said event co-chairman Susan Garner, who represents one of the event co-sponsors, the Pilot Club of Longview

"You're looking forward to a little bit of everything," said event co-chairman and East Texas Restaurant Association representative Cathy Cace. "We have barbeque. We have Mexican. We have Chinese. We have seafood. We have steaks. We have desserts, wonderful desserts. Pizza. Just a little bit of everything from all around Longview."

And none of it would be possible without the generous donations of the 33 restaurants participating in this year's taste.

"They have to commit to giving away, because they give away, they donate, their taste of something special," Cace said. "They get great advertising exposure from that. They also, it's great community involvement."

There's more than just good food though, including a local DJ for dancing and plenty of opportunities to win great prizes.

"It's really a fun time. People look forward to it every year. This year for our 30th anniversary we're using the theme "Putting on the Ritz," so we're going to have a really fun time," Cace said.

And you can still take part in that fun time.

Tickets are $15 during the day today and are available at several locations throughout Longview, including A#1 Trophies and Plaques, Camera Shop, Hallmark, Johnny Cace's Seafood and Steakhouse, Manpower, Spring Hill State Bank, Topp Office Supply, and all of the local Texas Bank and Trust locations.

Tickets are $20 at the door tonight.

Proceeds are split between the Pilot Club of Longview and the East Texas Restaurant Association. The Pilot Club of Longview uses the money earned from the Taste of Longview to help organizations like the Alzheimer's Alliance and Wind Ridge Equestrian that deal with brain-related illnesses and injuries.

The East Texas Restaurant Association donates its half of the money earned from the Taste of Longview to support culinary curriculum in local high schools and help with continuing education in the restaurant industry.
